Chemical Peels
Dermatologists have used chemical peels for many years to rejuvenate facial skin and for the removal of wrinkles. A chemical peel is the application of one of several carefully selected chemical solutions to the outer layers of the skin’s surface for the purpose of removing and smoothing damaged and aged skin. Every peel is different and unique to each patient.

Glycolic acid and salicylic acid are used for the mildest of the peels processes. These are quick, light peels for improved smoothness and more radiant skin with no recovery period. No recovery period means no “down time.” Patients can resume normal activities immediately. These are called “lunch time peels.” Depending on the strength of the glycolic acid used, several periodic treatments may be required.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is most often used for medium-depth peeling. This is the peel I choose for the most sun-damaged skin and wrinkles. It treats surface wrinkles, blemishes, pigment problems, and pre-cancerous growths. Its concentration and time period of application will depend on the patient's needs. Patients should avoid sun exposure for several months after treatment.

Remember, it is always smart to protect your skin from sun damage, which is the major controllable cause of wrinkles and skin damage.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a relatively new technique, imported from Europe, where it has had remarkable success, and acceptance, as the latest method for treating a number of skin conditions, most notably those that relate to the changes produced by aging and chronic sun-exposure. The method involves the use of a hand-held “vacuum” device, which passes thousands of tiny “crystal-like” particles rotating at a very high speed across the surface of the skin. The device is moved over the entire area to betreated. In essence, this procedure removes the top layer of
the skin and vacuums it away. It is painless and requires no healing time. The most common conditions that are treated with the process are those that relate to aging, premature aging and sun-damage. These include: pigmentation problems such as the “sun freckles” caused by excessive sun, hormonal problems, or birth control pills: texture problems, the roughness and unevenness of the skin’s surface. Wrinkles are improved and the skin appears smoother and more youthful. Remember, it is always smart to protect your skin from sun damage, which is the major controllable cause of wrinkles and skin damage.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is now the most popular method of permanent hair reduction available. The most common areas treated are the lip, face, brow, chin, neck, bikini line, legs in women, and the back in men. Certain skin types and hair color respond better to laser hair removal. The ideal patient is one with fair skin and dark hair, although most types of hair can be removed. The amount of hair that is permanently destroyed varies significantly from patient-to-patient depending on the site, the skin type, and hair color. Special cooling devices and topical anesthetics are used to provide a relatively painless treatment. Laser hair removal
usually requires a minimum of three to four treatments, and in some cases, more. We offer a free laser hair removal consultation in the office to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy diminishes redness of the face associated with rosacea, reduces brown spots, smoothes roughly textured skin, and erases small red facial vessels on the nose, cheeks, chin, etc. IPL also stimulates new collagen to form in the skin thereby reducing fine lines, minimizing pore size and acne scars, and increasing skin elasticity. We offer a free IPL consultation in the office to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure.

BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an excellent treatment used for the past 12 years for muscle-driven wrinkles, primarily in the upper face - specifically frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox, a protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria, has also been used in medical therapy (ophthalmology and neurology) for the past 20 years. Botox received FDA approval for cosmetic treatment of frown lines and has since received massive publicity. BOTOX partially blocks the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. This causes the muscles that are related to expression to relax. After the solution takes effect, the overlying skin will be smooth and unwrinkled while your untreated facial muscles will still function and contract, continuing to cause dynamic expressions. Presently there is no treatment substitute. Results last from three to six months, and occasionally touch-up treatments may be requested. BOTOX® for severe underarm sweating

Most people are normal in the amount of perspiration that they produce. When the temperature is hot, or we exercise, the normal response is to sweat. Some people just sweat too much. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis. It is thought that as many as 7-8 million people in the US are affected. Although the increased sweating can occur anywhere on the body, the most prevalent site is the axilla, or armpits. The average age at time of presentation is 37, although most have had their condition since their early twenties. Many have learned to live with it, thinking that nothing could be done about it. Up until very recently the only treatments available were topical preparations and taking medication by mouth, which have their own limitations and side effects. Now the FDA has approved the use of BOTOX for the treatment of hyperhidrosis that has failed to respond to more conservative measures.
